Experimental Study on the Effective Energy Dissipation Range of EPS Cushion in Shed Under Impact Loading

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a lightweight, malleable, adjustable strength material with good cushioning properties. This paper introduces the concept of diameter-thickness ratio and high-thickness to analyze impact force duration data tests different thicknesses EPS plates sand cushion layers under environments, which shows that within range thickness can be withstood by structure shed cavern, there an optimal energy dissipation for materials conditions, best performance layer; if falling rocks correspond or exceed this range, will greatly reduced. Engineering designers select ideal according maximum thickness, estimated rockfall volume height cavern withstand, based on calculations provided in paper, thus achieving fast accurate design structures.
